My Grandfather began working in the brokerage business with a national firm in 1919. In 1937 he decided to open his own firm, H. H. Butterfield Company. My father, Jack, started working with his father in 1946. My grandfather’s other son, James, decided to join the firm in 1958. His sons, Jack and James, continued to work together for 5 years. At that point, they split the firm into two separate companies, both located in Jackson. My father (Jack), allowed me (John), to join the firm, Jack V. Butterfield Investment Company in 1979. I had the privilege to work with him in the business until his death in 1983. After my father’s death, I decided to keep the firm’s name in honor of my father.
