Since its beginning in 1971, the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature, together with the Center for the Study of Midwestern Literature and Culture and the Midwestern Press, has encouraged interest in Midwestern literature and culture. SSML supports its members in pursuing those interests and in disseminating their results to the community at large and to students and scholars who may use that work as the foundation for further study, research, and appreciation.
